The Intersection of Science and Spirit

The most beautiful and profound emotion we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the source of all true science.
~Albert Einstein

It is not uncommon to find me, on any given day, sitting in a field with my journal examining a tree, a stream or even a 5-inch square plot of earth.  I look carefully and then draw, write and paint everything I see. I take the information I find and research my findings even deeper. I write all over the pages and pictures.  I am drawn to Science,  especially the branches of Earth and Life Sciences.  It is truly miraculous.  It all works together as a village supporting the life within and around it. Movement, change, giving and receiving.  It all happens right there in nature.

I sat on a rock high above a valley feeling the breeze fluttering through my hair, the grounded support of the rock beneath me.  The strength and stability of the trees and the fall changes moving from various shades of green to red, yellow, orange, and then, brown.  Absorbing and flowing with the change instead of resisting it.

So that is Science, facts and observations.  But is that all? Does it negate Spirit, that which cannot be understood, but truly felt.  Is Science a reflection of spiritual movement in our world and universe? One day as I sat in the woods I was pondering the communication of spiritual beings.  I suddenly was drawn to a plant with long stems.  The stems seemed to be leaning into each other, with no sound.  I was struck by what seemed to be a subtle form of communication, and yet I knew the Scientific explanation for movement among the natural world--wind.  Is it actually possible that Spirit uses Science to manifest its own purpose? A sudden isolated gust of wind that wraps you up for a moment or a rain shower that happens in the midst of blue sky will surely have a Scientific explanation. But could Spirit have used Science to establish its presence to you in that moment? Could the butterfly that comes into your path at a strategic moment be Science directed by Spirit? When something mystical happens in my life I now recognize it as both- Science  and Spirit working together in their own magical partnership.
